Affiliate disclosure
Hanoi Food Walk participates in affiliate programmes with travel-tour aggregators. When you book a tour through a link on this site, we receive a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same as if you went to the operator directly — the commission comes out of the operator's marketing budget.
Programmes we participate in
- GetYourGuide Partner Programme — typical commission 8% of booking value.
- Viator Affiliate Programme — typical commission 8% of booking value.
- Klook Affiliate Programme — typical commission 5% of booking value.
- Booking.com Affiliate Partner — typical commission 4% of accommodation value (when we link to hotels).
- Amazon Associates — when we link to travel gear.
How we mark affiliate links
Every affiliate link on this site carries the HTML attribute rel="nofollow sponsored",
as required by Google and the FTC. In the visible content of the site, sections containing
affiliate links are labelled with phrases like "Book a tour" or "Affiliate links — see disclosure".
What this means for our reviews
The fact that we earn commission on tour bookings does not affect which tours or stalls we recommend. We list places we'd actually send a friend to. When we recommend something we don't earn a commission on (a $2 bún chả at a stall, a free walking route through the Old Quarter), we do so just as readily.
If a tour is bad, we won't recommend it even if it pays the highest commission. If a tour is good but isn't part of an affiliate programme we belong to, we'll still mention it.
Display advertising
Once site traffic is large enough, we may also run display advertising via networks like Mediavine or Ezoic. Those ads are clearly visible as ads. The networks pay us a small amount per thousand page views; the advertisers do not influence editorial content.
